The Naini Central Jail administration has changed the barrack of Mafiosi-turned politician and former MP Atiq Ahmad’s second son, Ali Ahmad. The step has been taken as a security measure and to avoid his contact with his aides and other henchmen of Atiq who are also lodged in jail in different cases.

Ali has now been shifted to a solitary barrack situated at a distant corner of the jail. Security has been increased around his new barrack and an eye is being kept on him, jail officials said.

Dozens of Atiq’s aides, henchmen and kin are lodged at Naini jail for different crimes. Ali’s own aides are also in jail while many notorious criminals from Western and Eastern UP are lodged in different barracks. Ali is not allowed to meet other prisoners at the jail.

RK Singh, acting superintendent, Naini Central Jail, said that some prisoners, including Ali, are kept separately for security reasons.

Ali and some of his aides were named in the assault, extortion bids and issuing threats to a property dealer Zeeshan aka Janu in December last year. Ali was on the run and surrendered before the court on September 30. He was sent to jail under judicial custody.

However, Ali’s aides and henchmen of former MP Atiq Ahmad became active after his arrival in jail.

Some of them were trying to communicate with Ali. Taking serious note of the issue, the jail administration shifted Ali to another barrack recently. The barrack is in another corner of the jail premises.

Jail officials said visitors are allowed to meet Ali strictly as per rules. No special facilities are being provided to Ali and an eye is also being kept on those coming to meet him, they said.
