The crime branch of Panchkula police has arrested a man and is searching for his accomplices for trying to extort ₹1 lakh from a Kalka-based scrap dealer.

The accused has been identified as Kamal, 24, hailing from Pinjore.
His arrest came on the complaint of Rafudin of Madhjwala, Kalka, who told the police that a group of youths had visited his godown on February 27 and demanded ₹1 lakh.
When he didn’t pay them, they assaulted him on March 14, pointed a gun and threatened to set his godown on fire.
On his complaint, police have registered a case under Sections 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 387 (putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act at the Pinjore police station.
The accused was produced before a court and sent to four-day police custody.
