Prayagraj: Crude bombs hurled at BJP leader’s house, two injured

Unidentified miscreants hurled crude bombs at the residence of Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sangeeta Patel on Monday night, under Shivkuti police station.

Sangeeta is the daughter of former MLA Rangbahadur Patel. In the incident, the former MLA’s two sons received minor injuries that caused panic in the locality. CCTV footages revealed that two miscreants on a scooty hurled crude bombs and then fled. An FIR has been registered and efforts were on to arrest the miscreants, police said.

According to reports, a resident of Bartan Wali Gali in Teliarganj area, Sangeeta Patel is district general secretary of BJP while her father late Rangbahadur Patel was MLA. Sangeeta lives with her kin in the house.

Her brother Vikas Patel in his complaint given to police claimed that on Monday night at around 9.30 pm two persons on a scooty reached outside their house.

One of them started using abusing language and hurled a crude bomb. Vikas and his brother Anurag came outside on hearing the explosion following which the man threw another bomb. Both Vikas and Anurag received shrapnel injuries in the second bomb attack. Police team reached the spot on receiving the information and carried out investigations.

CCTV footages revealed that out of the two persons, one of them was wearing a cap. SHO Shivkuti Manish Tripathi said an FIR has been lodged in this connection and further investigations were being carried on.

According to reports, Anurag Patel’s wife had committed suicide by hanging herself in June 2019. Her father Ramdulare had lodged an FIR in this connection against Anurag and Vikas who were sent to jail and were later released on bail.
