Following the tigress’s sudden death, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (DTR) Field Director Dr H. Rajamohan and Deputy Director (Buffer Zone) Kirti Chaudhary rushed to the Majhgain range office, where the animal had been kept in a cage after its rescue.

Confirming the death, Chaudhary said the exact cause could not be immediately ascertained.

“The tigress appeared normal after being rescued in the morning. However, it suddenly collapsed and died in the evening,” she said.

Officials said the carcass will be sent to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly, on Wednesday for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. HTC
