State wide fort making contest to rekindle Maratha history

First state-level model fort making competition in Navi Mumbai to commemorate the 350th anniversary of Shivaji Maharaja's coronation. Over 100 participants from 4 regions will compete in junior and senior categories. The competition aims to revive the tradition of forts among the youth. The organization also plans to hoist flags on all 350 forts in the state on January 26, 2024, as part of the Shiv Rajyabhishek celebrations. The competition will be judged from November 13 to 19.

Navi Mumbai: The glorious history of Maratha forts and the grandness in terms of structural design and artistry is to be remembered through first of its kind state level competition of model fort making competition. To commemorate the 350 year of Shivaji Maharaja’s coronation, major state level activities have been planned by the Akil Maharashtra Giryarohan Mahasangh. Model fort making competition is one of the activities that has received over 100 odd participants.

The competition is to be conducted in 4 regions – Mulund and Bhandup, Thane and Navi Mumbai, Mumbai city and rest of Maharashtra region. The competition is being conducted in both junior and senior categories.

“ This is the first time that the activity is planned on a state level. Since forts have been an integral part of the Maratha history the competition is intended to revive this tradition amongst the youth,” said a volunteer Rahul Meshram.

Last week, the association conducted a training workshop wherein participants were explained the appropriate ways forts are to be made. “ over 70 odd individuals had participated in the camp. Participants were explained the significance of forts and the reason to conduct the competition which is to instill pride and sense of belonging to the forts in the state,” said Meshram.

The fort making competition will be judged from November 13 to 19.
