Tripura Police launches crackdown on underage driving

Registration of the offending vehicles will be cancelled for one year and the juvenile offenders would not be allowed to get driving license until the age of 25 years

The Tripura police has launched an enforcement drive against driving of motor vehicles by juveniles to prevent motor vehicle mishaps stating that parents and vehicle owners allowing minors to drive will be liable for the offence.

The notification released from the office of director general of police announced a penalty of 25,000 from the vehicle owners or guardians with minimum three years imprisonment for the responsible adults.

Registration of the offending vehicles will be cancelled for one year and the juvenile offenders would not be allowed to get driving license until the age of 25 years.

“Under the amended Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, it is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to drive motorized vehicles. Guardians and vehicle owners allowing minors to drive will be held responsible for the offence”, reads the notification.
