Two arrested for robbing cloth merchant in Prayagraj

Nawabganj police and SOG arrested two suspects in a cloth merchant robbery, recovering cash and weapons; a third suspect is still at large.

: A joint team of Nawabganj police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested two criminals involved in a robbery of a cloth merchant and sent them to jail.

Police said the accused had earlier met in Pratapgarh jail and later planned the robbery together (For representation only)

The accused have been identified as Ankit Gautam, a resident of Katra, and Chhaila Babu, a resident of Barej. Police recovered ₹30,980 in cash, two pistols, two cartridges and a motorcycle from their possession.

Efforts are underway to arrest the third accused, Anshu Dubey of Kasari village. According to the police, on December 26, three armed men entered the cloth shop of Dilip Kesarwani in Lalgopalganj and looted ₹90,000 at gunpoint before fleeing. Police said the accused had earlier met in Pratapgarh jail and later planned the robbery together. Station house officer of Nawabganj police station, Raghavendra Singh, said two accused have been arrested and the third will be caught soon.
