MeT issues red warning for extremely heavy rain in Champaran on June 29

Southwest monsoon remained active over the state as very heavy rain lashed Forbesganj and Thakurganj while moderate to heavy rain occurred at the remaining places in the past 24 hours, said MeT officials

Several parts of Bihar are likely to receive extremely heavy rain in the next 24 hours, officials of Patna Meteorological Centre said on Tuesday.

The MeT centre has also issued red warning for extremely heavy rain at East Champaran and West Champaran, and orange warning predicting very heavy rain at isolated places in Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Gopalganj and Madhubani districts for Wednesday.

As per weather bulletin, Forbesganj received 152.4 mm of rainfall.

Meanwhile, the average maximum temperature in the state hovered around 34°C, with relief brought by cloud cover, rain and cool breeze.

Kamini Kumari, an official at Patna Meteorological Centre, said, “As per current numerical model and weather analysis, easterly and south-easterly are dominating over the state up to 0.9 km above mean sea level. Besides, westerly and south-westerly winds are dominating over 1.9 km above mean level. An east-west trough is running from northwest Rajasthan to west central Bay of Bengal.”

India Meteorological Department classifies 2.5 mm to 15.5 mm of rainfall as “light”, 15.6 mm to 64.4mm as “moderate”, 64.5mm to 115.5mm as “heavy”, 115.6mm to 204.4 mm as “very heavy” and above 204.5mm rain as “extremely heavy” rain.
