PUNE After a week of door-to-door drive and on-site pulse polio vaccination, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) could vaccinate 98% of the beneficiaries. Out of the 3.11 lakh beneficiaries, 2.61 lakh got vaccinated during the first day of the drive.

It started on February 27 when 1,425 booths were put in place, and 4,180 employees were part of the drive. The first day of the drive covered over 2,61,229 out of the 3,11,000 beneficiaries. From February 28 to March 5, the civic body covered over 43,582 kids aged under five years who got the jab. A total of 3,04,811 kids were vaccinated which took the vaccine coverage to 98%.
Dr Suryakant Deokar, PMC chief immunisation officer, said, “We had set up over 70 transit camps for immunisation at places of crowding like railway stations and bus stops. In the past one week, we sent out multiple teams to conduct door-to-door vaccination drives to ensure that not a single child is left out of vaccination.”
“All kids under five years of age are eligible to take the vaccine and we request that citizens to cooperate with the health officials who might come during house visits,” he said.
