PUNE: A 26-year-old car driver was killed and his co-passenger injured after their vehicle crashed into an electricity pole at Perne Phata on the Pune–Ahilyanagar highway around 1 am on Sunday, police said. The deceased has been identified as Debaganik Das, a resident of Koregaon Park.

His co-passenger, Ankita Baral, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment.
SPI Sarjerao Kumbhar of Lonikand police said Das was pursuing his second-year MBA from a prominent college in Wagholi. “His father is a central government officer posted in Bengaluru,” Kumbhar said.
According to police, Das and his friend had gone on a long drive late on the night of December 3. “It is suspected that Das became drowsy while driving, causing the car to ram into an electricity pole,” Kumbhar added. Das was a native of Kolkata and was staying in a rented apartment in Koregaon Park.
