The workers of Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have maintained suspense over the unopposed election of Kasba assembly constituency and said that it is a tradition in Maharashtra to conduct unopposed election after the death of any member, however, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not followed this in the past.

After the death of BJP MLA Mukta Tilak of Kasba Peth and Laxman Jagtap of Chinchwad, Election Commission of India announced the by election for both the assembly constituencies.
Congress Party’s state unit president Nana Patole who was in a city to launch a state-wide campaign on Monday said, “Maharashtra is a different state. We usually do unopposed election if the ticket has been given to a candidate from the passed away members family. Congress had started this tradition. When BJP leader Gopinath Munde passed, we did unopposed election. But when Maha Vikas Agadhi was ruling in the state, BJP had given ticket in Pandharpur, Andheri and Kolhapur assembly by elections. By considering all these experiences, we would think about their proposal. We will let them give the proposal first.”
“Almost 10 candidates have shown willingness for contesting elections for Kasba Peth constituency. We will take the decision on candidate soon and will be ready to contest the election,” added Patole.
