Pune: State medical education minister Hasan Mushrif said that dental procedures related to oral surgeries have been included under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY).

Speaking at the 20th convocation ceremony of M.A. Rangoonwala College of Dental Sciences and Research Centre at Azam Campus on Thursday, Mushrif said, “Oral health issues like cancer, cavities and gum diseases are major challenges. By including dental procedures under the scheme, we are moving towards making quality oral healthcare accessible to all, especially for those who cannot afford it.”
Mushrif urged medical institutions to take the lead in awareness and outreach, particularly in rural areas. “Institutions must not only provide treatment, but also focus on preventive healthcare and awareness campaigns so that diseases can be detected early. Digital tools, artificial intelligence, simulation-based learning and minimally invasive techniques are transforming dentistry. Students and faculty must focus on innovation, research and indigenous development,” he said.
He highlighted the college’s collaborations with international institutions such as the University of Vienna, King’s College London and other academic bodies, saying such partnerships are essential to remain globally competitive.
During the ceremony, degrees were awarded to students, who also shared their experiences.
