A 25-year-old youth died after falling into 150-feet deep Pandava Ghoradeshwar valley on the old Pune-Mumbai highway near Talegaon Dabhade on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Laxman Pujari, a resident of Talegaon Dabhade, who is originally from Belgaum, Karnataka.
According to the Police, on Sunday, Pujari was under the influence of alcohol when he climbed the hilltop. He called his parents in Belgaum and told them that he was drunk and was unable to get down from the spot. But unfortunately, he died after falling into a 150 feet deep gorge. His parents were constantly trying his mobile but the mobile was switched off.
On Tuesday, his parents approached the police station. A search operation was launched by the Talegaon Dabhade police team in collaboration with the Shiv Durga trekking group and the Maval Wildlife rescue team.
“Immediately after receiving information about the incident, a police team from Talegaon Dabhade police station, along with a local trekkers group, initiated a search operation,” said Durganath Sali, assistant police inspector (API) at Talegaon Dabhade police station.
“After a frantic 4–5-hour search, we discovered his dead body on a tree in a 150-foot-deep gorge around 3:30 pm,” he informed.
Sali went on to say that at around 9:30 pm on Tuesday, the deceased’s body was handed over to his relatives after the necessary formalities.
Talegaon Dabhade police have registered an accidental death report and appealed that people should avoid visiting such hilly places after consuming alcohol. People should take proper precautions while venturing into such mountainous places.
