The Maharashtra government will implement all post-matric scholarship schemes through a unified “MahaScholarship” system on the MahaDBT 2.0 portal from 2026-27, according to a Government Resolution (GR) issued on May 23.
The move, under the Governance Process Re-Engineering (GPR) initiative, aims to simplify processes, reduce paperwork and improve transparency.
Developed by MahaIT, the system will initially cover OBC, VJNT and Special Backward Classes under the Department of Other Backward Bahujan Welfare.
Students will apply for multiple schemes through a single portal, with the number of application fields reduced from over 130 to about 65. Data and documents will be auto-fetched via Aadhaar and other databases, including CET Cell records.
The portal will also flag eligible schemes for applicants, while eligibility criteria and benefits remain unchanged. The system will cover 15 schemes, including fee reimbursement, merit scholarships and stipends for vocational and ITI students.
The Directorate of Other Backward Bahujan Welfare, Pune, has been directed to implement the system before the 2026-27 academic year.
