The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) on Friday announced Pune city unit president Shrikant Patil as its candidate for the upcoming Legislative Council election from the local authorities’ constituency.
However, it remains unclear whether Patil will contest as the official candidate of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) or solely represent the NCP (SP).
NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar announced Patil’s candidature for the MLC seat under the local bodies quota.
Earlier, the Congress was considering fielding its own candidate and had reportedly planned to nominate Gopal Tiwari. The party had convened a meeting on Friday to discuss the issue. However, following the NCP (SP)’s announcement, Congress leaders refrained from making any immediate announcement on their candidate.
