The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) should immediately pay ₹6 lakh compensation to the family of the 10-year-old boy who died after a two-wheeler skidded on a pothole on the Sus-Mhalunge Road, standing committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale said on Sunday.

A boy was killed after a truck allegedly rammed into the motorcycle on which he was travelling with his father and sister on a narrow, pothole-riddled road on August 17.
Bhimale urged municipal commissioner Naval Kishor Ram to implement the Bombay High Court’s October 13, 2025 order on compensation for deaths caused by potholes and open drains.
He asked the PMC to take suo motu cognisance of the incident and place the case before the concerned committee without waiting for a complaint from the family.
Under the court order, legal heirs of people who die due to potholes or open drains are entitled to ₹6 lakh compensation. The local authority must initially pay the amount, which can later be recovered from the responsible officer, engineer, or contractor.
Bhimale also sought an inquiry to identify the agency responsible for maintaining the road and fix accountability for the pothole.
“Providing safe roads is the responsibility of the municipal corporation. The victim’s family should not be made to wait for assistance when there is a clear court order,” Bhimale said.
