The demolished structure measured around 875 sq ft. The action comes amid an ongoing investigation into the suspected methanol-laced liquor tragedy that has claimed 20 lives.

PCMC had issued a show-cause notice to Virka on June 2, directing him to remove the illegal structure within 24 hours or face demolition.

The action was undertaken following directions issued by civic chief Vijay Suryavanshi.

Investigators suspect the premises was used for storage and distribution of illegally manufactured alcohol. Security was tightened during the demolition, with more than 50 police personnel, 10 officers and 20 Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) jawans deployed in and around the area.
