The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday carried out a demolition drive against alleged front-margin encroachments by hotels and other establishments in Vimannagar and Lohegaon.

The action drew attention after civic officials initiated proceedings against Rameshwaram Cafe in Viman Nagar, prompting discussions among local residents and business owners. In a statement, the PMC said encroachments in designated front margin areas were removed near Neco Garden, Sambar Hotel, Krishna Hotel, Ganpati Mandir Chowk and Rameshwaram Cafe. A total of 6,500 sq ft of space was cleared during the drive, the civic body said.
Officials stated that the operation was part of an ongoing effort to enforce development control regulations and ensure that mandatory open spaces in front of commercial establishments remain free of encroachments. In a separate action, the PMC’s building permission department also demolished portions of an unauthorised multi-storey building in Lohegaon, officials added.
