Maharashtra minister of state for urban development Madhuri Misal on Friday reviewed the progress of key mobility projects in Pune, including the proposed high-capacity mass transit route (HCMTR), tunnel projects, and the inner ring road. She also directed Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNGL) to expedite pending works and improve gas supply infrastructure across the city.

At a review meeting, Misal stressed the need to resolve land acquisition, funding and statutory approvals for the infrastructure projects so that delays do not hold up implementation. (HT)

At a review meeting, Misal stressed the need to resolve land acquisition, funding and statutory approvals for the infrastructure projects so that delays do not hold up implementation. The projects reviewed included the HCMTR elevated corridor, proposed tunnels between Taljai and Hingne and Pashan and Panchavati, elevated stretch between Vitthalwadi Kaman and Ektanagari, and the inner ring road.

Misal said, “The focus should be on resolving land acquisition, funding and approval-related issues in advance so that these projects do not face delays. All concerned departments must work in coordination and ensure that the projects move forward within a defined timeline”.

According to officials, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) plans to use 1,500 crore from its fixed deposits (FDs) towards the estimated 3,000 crore land acquisition cost for the HCMTR. Misal directed officials to ensure that the move does not affect other civic works or essential services. The meeting also reviewed a repayment plan, efforts to secure viability-gap funding from the Centre, and other funding options.

With the PMC targeting the HCMTR tender in December 2026, officials were directed to complete land acquisition, technical approvals and pre-tender processes on time. A digital dashboard and war room will also be set up to monitor the progress of the projects.

Misal also directed officials to integrate HCMTR planning with metro and bus services, and prepare an alternative traffic plan to minimise disruption on Sinhagad road, Satara road and Pashan road during construction.

For the inner ring road, the PMC, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Uruli Devachi-Phursungi municipal council have been asked to finalise the scope of work, land acquisition and financial responsibilities, officials said.

MNGL asked to expedite pending works

In a separate review of MNGL’s operations, Misal directed the gas utility to complete pending works in Pune on priority and ensure that domestic consumers receive timely connections after infrastructure work is completed.

She also called for a review meeting within 15 days to assess the progress of the company’s work in the city.

“MNGL should prepare a clear plan for its work in Pune and implement it in coordination with local public representatives, the civic administration and citizens. Once the work is completed, gas supply should be started without delay and arrangements should be made to ensure that consumers receive their bills on time,” Misal said.

Mayor Manjusha Nagpure asked MNGL to plan works ward-wise and ensure that underground cables and water pipelines are not damaged during excavation. Standing committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale also called for better coordination between the company, local representatives and residents.

MNGL Pune manager Ritesh Ingolle said that the company will address issues raised during the meeting and coordinate with the PMC and local representatives to resolve the citizens’ complaints.
