Pune: Khadki police on Thursday arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly repeatedly sexually assaulting a 39-year-old woman with mental illness, exploiting her vulnerability and threatening to kill her if she disclosed the abuse. The accused has been identified as Afraz Jaffer Shaikh, a resident of Darga Vasti in Khadki.
According to the police, the complaint was filed by the survivor’s 68-year-old mother, after which a case was registered on December 15. The alleged offences took place on multiple occasions between March 2025 and November 2025. Investigators said the woman has been mentally ill since childhood and the accused is a close relative’s son.
Despite knowing about her mental condition, Shaikh allegedly established physical relations with her in March 2025 and subsequently assaulted her repeatedly under threats. The survivor recently confided in her mother, following which the family approached the police.
