Pune: Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Sheetal Teli-Ugale on Wednesday took charge as the divisional commissioner of Pune. A 2009-batch IAS officer, Teli-Ugale, was recently transferred from the post of state sports commissioner.

Teli-Ugale is a gold medallist from the Arts faculty of Savitribai Phule Pune University and has undergone special training in Australia on “water security” and “circular economy”, sponsored by the governments of India and Australia in 2023.

She began her administrative career as assistant collector in Nagpur and later served in key positions including assistant collector in Chandrapur, chief executive officer of Jalgaon zilla parishad, collector of Raigad, additional commissioner of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) , metropolitan commissioner of Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority, commissioner of textiles and managing director of Maharashtra State Handloom Development Corporation, commissioner of Solapur Municipal Corporation, and state sports commissioner.

When she was the additional commissioner of PMC, the civic body received several recognitions, including the Skoch Order of Merit and Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) Award for Best Practices. Pune city was also ranked as the “best city in urban governance” in an assessment conducted by NGO Janaagraha.
