Pune: Thieves broke into a jewellery shop in Hadapsar by breaking the wall in the early hours of March 30 and decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth ₹98.45 lakh, officials said on Tuesday.
According to the police, the incident took place between 1.20 am and 2.45 am on Monday after the complainant, a 58-year-old resident of Sadashiv Peth, had closed his shop for the night. The theft came to light when the shop owner discovered the break-in the next day and alerted the police. According to the police, 50kg of silver articles and other things worth ₹98,45,477 were stolen.
Sanjay Mogale, senior inspector, Hadapsar Police Station, said, “Four unidentified individuals were involved in the case.”
Sub-inspector Hasan Mulani said, “The accused gained entry from the back side of an adjacent tin warehouse. They removed bricks one by one and gained entry into the shop.”
An FIR has been filed under Sections 305 (a), 331(4), 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and investigation is underway.
