Three bullocks were charred to death and two others sustained injuries in a fire that broke out at a cowshed in Navlakh Umbre village of Padval vasti in Maval tehsil of the district early Tuesday morning, an official said.

District animal husbandry officer Shivajo Vidhate said, “The bovines were tied inside the cowshed located near a small hillock. There was no one present at the spot. Someone noticed the fire and alerted the villagers.”
The owner Bharat Padwal lodged a complaint with the district administration and the revenue department has conducted a spot “panchnama” (assessment). The administration has not confirmed the cause behind the incident.
Talegaon Dabhade inspector Ranjeet Sawant and his team visited the spot. Padwal said, “The animals were used for bullock carts.”
Devrai NGO head Girish Kher said, “Authorities should compensate for the loss.”
