Tingre withdraws from Pune Legislative Council race

NCP leader Sunil Tingre on Tuesday announced his withdrawal from MLC poll race and extended support to the party leadership’s decision on candidate selection

Pune: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sunil Tingre on Tuesday announced his withdrawal from the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) poll race and extended support to the party leadership’s decision on candidate selection. Tingre said he would place the party unity and organisational strength above personal aspirations.

“For me, the party and its workers are most important. I respect the decision taken by the party leadership and will work wholeheartedly for the victory of NCP,” Tingre said.

The announcement came amid intense political activity within the NCP over the party’s nominee for the Pune Legislative Council seat. Tingre was considered one of the frontrunners for the candidature. However, the party leadership eventually finalised Vikram Kakade even as Tingre too filed his nomination with his supporters angry over Kakade’s candidature.
