Pune city police on Sunday arrested a 25-year-old worker at a two-wheeler showroom in Hadapsar for allegedly stealing ₹2.70 lakh from the cash box kept in the premises, a police officer said on Monday. The accused has been identified as Bapurao Sandipan Gayakwad, a resident of Kailas Nagar in the Wadki Nala area of Haveli taluka.

Police suspect the alleged theft was carried out on February 6-7 in the showroom - Kamathe Bikes - near Annasaheb Magar College. The owner had kept ₹2,70,000 cash in the premises of the showroom for salaries of the employees. On realising that the money was missing, he filed a complaint at the Hadapsar police station, which registered a case under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against unidentified persons.
While investigating, police received a tip-off from a source that a worker employed at the showroom was involved in the act. A police team then launched a search and nabbed the accused, who is originally from Karmala, from a hideout in Loni Kalbhor.
Following his interrogation, police recovered ₹2,59,800 in cash from him, and seized an Activa two-wheeler and a mobile phone used in the crime.
