A 29-year-old youth allegedly died by suicide after opening fire on a 27-year-old woman at KDH Playground under Khelari police station in Ranchi on Friday, officials said.
A police official close to the matter said that the incident took place in the morning when the woman was on her way to her school, where she works as a teacher.
“After the woman fell, the youth went to his residence and died by suicide. The woman’s father is a CCL employee, while the youth used to prepare for competitive exams while staying at his cousin’s residence. His cousin is also a CCL employee. The woman is in critical condition at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS),” the police official said.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of Khelari, Ram Narayan Choudhary, confirmed the incident, saying an FIR was registered in this connection.
“An FIR under sections 118 and 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 27 of the Arms Act has been registered in this connection. Unsuccessful love is being suspected as the reason. However, any conclusive statement can be given only after the probe is completed,” the DSP said.
