‘Panj Pyaras’ sacked by the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) last year have announced to open an office in Amritsar on Friday. They are yet to announce the activities to be undertaken in the office, which will be opened in the New Amritsar area after a religious function.

In a release issued in Amritsar on Thursday, the sacked ‘Panj Pyaras’ said they decided to open the office in Amritsar following requests by the Sikh community.

Upset over the pardon given to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the ‘Panj Pyaras’ had revolted against the Akal Takht. Though the pardon was later withdrawn, the ‘Panj Pyaras’ had asked the ‘jathedars’ of Takhts to appear before the Akal Takht.

As they did not appear, the ‘Panj Pyaras’ directed the SGPC executive to remove ‘jathedars’ of Akal Takht, Takht Damdama Sahib and Takht Kesgarh Sahib. The three ‘jathedars’ are appointees of the SGPC as these are in Punjab and are under its jurisdiction. As the crisis deepened, the SGPC ordered transfer of ‘Panj Pyaras’, and later sacked them when they did not abide by the orders.
