A private school principal was booked for beating a 13-year-old student of Class 5 for not doing his homework in Surajpur. The student’s father filed a complaint in Surajpur police station on Monday. He alleged that the principal slapped the student multiple times on the left cheek, leading to his face swelling. The student is a resident of Mubarakpur village and studies in a private school in Lakhnawali village.

The complaint was filed by Yusuf, the father of the student. He works as a street food vendor in Greater Noida. Yusuf said that he was at his workplace when he received a call from his wife, informing him about his son being beaten at the school in the afternoon.

“Initially, I thought the teacher was strict to the student to maintain discipline. But when I returned home in the evening, I found my son’s face swollen on the left side,” he said.

“The boy informed us that the principal, Pramod Sharma, caught his right ear with one hand and slapped his left cheek multiple times,” he said.

Yusuf said that the teacher had beaten up his older son a few days ago as well. “I do not think corporal punishment is justified against students in a school. I have filed a complaint against the principal at the Surajpur police station,” Yusuf said.

The principal’s brother Manoj Sharma, who also works at the school, said his brother’s intention was not to hurt the student. “This was an unfortunate incident. We have apologised to the family and promised this will not happen again,” he said.
