"He had a major injury, a long and deep cut in the little finger of his left hand while fielding. We conducted a surgery and discharged him today morning," Dr Yash Gulati, orthopedist, Apollo hospital said.

While fielding on the third day of the third cricket Test against Australia at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium, Kumble injured the finger when he tried to grab a difficult catch of Matthew Hayden at short mid-wicket off leg-spinner Amit Mishra.

He was admitted to the hospital at about 2 p.M. On Friday. Dr Gulati added, "He is fit to play and he has already taken a wicket."

Kumble has an impressive record at the Kotla. This is the venue where he picked up all 10 wickets in an innings against Pakistan.
