The 24-acre stadium, to be built at an estimate cost of Rs 30 crore and having a seating capacity of 35,000, is likely to be built in one-and-a-half years, Reddy said.

The Cricket Board (BCCI) and the Andhra Pradesh Cricket Association are jointly funding the construction of the stadium which will house VIP boxes, swimming pool facilities and a cricket academy, organisers said.

The stadium hopes to host the 2011 Cricket World Cup, they said.

Reddy also approved the setting up of a weavers' park in the town.
