"I want cricket to be played in India. Nobody needs to worry about safety while playing in India," Chidambaram said at a press conference.

"Cricket in India is completely safe but the IPL (Indian Premier League) and election schedules are overlapping and rescheduling seems unavoidable.

"I must know whether I have enough paramilitary forces to provide security to the IPL," he said.

To a query, Chidambaram said he did not want the IPL to move out of the country.

"The Indian Premier League must be in India. Where else will it be played? We will help the IPL hold matches," the minister said.
