Leg-spinner Amit Mishra turned back the clock in stunning style and played a pivotal role in Delhi Capitals’ five-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals in a one-sided Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday.

Ishant Sharma and Amit Mishra scalped three wickets each as RR were restricted to a paltry 115/9 in 20 overs. Riyan Parag top-scored for the away side as he slammed his maiden IPL fifty. Delhi lost few wickets in the chase but Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 53 got them over the line in the 17th over.

After a poor start to the innings that saw Rajasthan lose four wickets with just 30 runs on the board, Riyan Parag and Shreyas Gopal steadied the ship by putting on a 27-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

However, Rajasthan’s hopes of posting a big total ended in the 12th over when Mishra removed two batsmen off successive deliveries to peg the away side further. Shreyas Gopal was stumped emphatically by the wicket-keeper while Stuart Binny edged the ball into the hands of the custodian on the next delivery.

Mishra should have picked an unprecedented fourth IPL hat-trick but a high-catch was dropped by Trent Boult and K Gowtham survived. Despite this, Mishra’s two-wicket burst in the over meant RR were 6 down in the 12th over and their chances of a big total was dashed at the tail was exposed.
