Kumble had said after Sunday’s match against the Daredevils that the Kotla pitch is not ideal for Twenty20 cricket since it gives advantage to the team batting first.

“I still maintain that Kotla is the most sporting wicket in IPL. The ICC chief curator Andy Atkinson had approved the playing facilities at Kotla and certified it fit for T20 cricket,” DDCA sports secretary Sunil Dev said in a statement.

Former curator of the Kotla, Radhey Shyam Sharma, who played a role in pitch preparation defended the wicket, questioning, “if it was on the slower side, why did a bowler like Vettori struggle?”
