2nd Ashes Test Day 2 Live: Steve Smith to bowl the last over of the day!
13 years ago Smith had got his maiden Test wicket at this ground. He has gone on to become a superstar, but hardly bowls nowadays. For he is now regarded as an all-time great batter! Whoda thunk, eh? Here he is, bowling to Stokes for what could be an interesting over.
2nd Ashes Test Day 2 Live score: England 274/4 in 59 overs
Stokes and Brook has looked far more solid than any of their teammates really. Haven't really gone for the big stuff off the short balls but also ensured that the runs didn't stop flowing.
England vs Australia Live Score: Head fills in
Wonder if Smith will also roll his hands over at some point. With no Lyon around and with the short stuff being the plan for the day, Australia need their part-timers to chip in with a few overs today.
ENG vs AUS 2nd Test Day 2 Live Score: England 243/4 in 50 overs
England's target to chase in the 2019 World Cup final was 242. Had they batted at the rate they are today, the whole rigmarole about super overs and boundary counts would have never happened. But, wait a minute, this format was supposed to be tougher to bat in! Oh but wait a minute once again, they need to chase down well over 400 this time, with just six wickets left. Now that thought changes things, doesn't it?
2nd Ashes Test Day 2 Live: England 233/4
Australia stick to the short ball ploy, a lot of credit to Josh Hazlewood for playing a big role in helping them do that by bowling all those cover overs for Cummins and Starc, England continue to take them on. Ben Stokes has dug in for the early part of his innings, on one off seven, Brook is on 21 off 24.
2nd Ashes Test Day 2 Live score: OUT! That's it for Root!
Boos ring out around Lord's as the big screen shows the third umpire's decision. The main question that Marai Erasmus had to answer was if Smith had grounded the ball in the aftermath of the dive.
Root c Smith b Starc 10 (19), England 222/4
England vs Australia Live Score: Root could be gone!
Well, well, well, Joe Root in some real trouble there. Short ball from Starc, Root pulls, Steve Smith comes running in and claims a catch diving forward. He celebrates and looks confident. It was a brilliant effort but the umpires take it upstairs…
ENG vs AUS 2nd Test Day 2 Live Score: Lyon update
Just in from Cricket Australia: Nathan Lyon suffered an injury to his right calf injury while fielding in the final session today. He will be further assessed after play
2nd Ashes Test Day 2 Live: OUT! DUCKETT MISSES OUT ON HIS CENTURY!
Top edge and he holes out at fine leg. The short ball ploy strikes again and this time, it denies an England batter a well-deserved century. Moreover, there is no ball. He starts his slow trudge to the pavillion, Joe Root gives him a pat on the back on the way and applause starts going around Lord's.
Duckett c Warner b Hazlewood 98 (134), England 208/3 in 42.2 overs
2nd Ashes Test Day 2 Live score: A confident throw from Labuschagne!
Duckett, on 97, taps it behind square and goes for a tight single. Labuschagne picks up the ball and nails a direct hit at the non-striker's end. There was no one backing him up which means that if it wasn't a direct hit, it would have raced to the boundary. That would have been Test century No.3.
England vs Australia Live Score: England 200/2 in 40 overs
Hazlewood to replace Green now. Now while all the commotion had been happening everywhere with the superstars Joe Root and Nathan Lyon, Ben Duckett has quietly moved to 94 off 127. What an innings this has been from the England opener. He is getting closer and closer to that third century.
ENG vs AUS 2nd Test Day 2 Live Score: ROOT DISMISSED OFF A NO BALL!
Oh Cam Green what have you done! Root gloves a short ball to Carey and Australia are a cock-a-hoop. Umpire Raza raises his hand... only to shoulder level to signal no ball! Root has been given a let off at 1 off 1.
2nd Ashes Test Day 2 Live: OUT! Ollie Pope goes down swinging
That was a very good catch from Steve Smith and one can't fault Ollie Pope. Australia had started going route one and the short ball frequency was increasing. Pope took one of those on, Smith ran back from deep backward square and takes the catch while stopping himself from going over the boundary.
Pope c Smith b Green 42 (63), England 188/2 in 38.1 overs
2nd Ashes Test Day 2 Live score: Nathan Lyon hobbles off!
Not a good sight for Australia. Their premier spinner, scratch that, their ONLY spinner, has hobbled off a field with what looks like a calf issue in the middle of the 37th over. He gets some attention from the Aussie physio sitting there and then tries to walk off to the dressing room. Soon it is clear that he has to put a hand around the physio to make the journey. England are 184/1, trail by 232.
England vs Australia Live Score: Duckett into the 70s
Ben Duckett looking as solid as ever at the moment. He is on 74 off 108, Ollie Pope on 38 off 49, England are 164/1 in just 34 overs. Of course they are following an ODI run rate and Australia must be trying not to think that Joe Root has not even come out to bat yet.
ENG vs AUS 2nd Test Day 2 Live Score: The players are back!
Onto the final session of the day we go, Duckett on strike, Pope on 32 off 40. England are 146/1, trail Australia by 270.

Full and straight from Starc, Duckett crunches it from his pads to the boundary for his half century. It has come in 84 balls. England are 135/1.
England vs Australia Live Score: FOUR!
Lyon floats a love half volley to Pope for the first ball of the 22nd and the England vice-captain accepts it graciously, thank you very much. Smashes it through the covers.
ENG vs AUS 2nd Test Day 2 Live Score: 100 up for England
It has come in just 20.4 overs and the ball is now being changed after Cummins brings its shape to the umpire's notice. Ahsan Raza agrees its not quite right and the box of balls comes out.
