Maxwell has returned to his home in Melbourne to recover from the injury while the remainder of the Australia squad assembles in Adelaide for the first of the three-match series.

Acting coach Michael Di Venuto, who has taken over from Darren Lehmann, who is in hospital receiving treatment for deep vein thrombosis, said Maxwell “has still got a little slight hamstring niggle so he will spend a few days in Melbourne at home and join the squad when we get there in a couple of days.”

Di Venuto said Lehmann is “on the road to recovery” after being taken to hospital during the fifth one-day international between Australia and India in Sydney on Saturday.
