Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay took India to 105/1 at lunch after captain Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat. From 154/1, the hosts lost three wickets, those of Pujara, Kohli and Vijay in the space of 9.4 overs as the Kiwis fought back.
The Kiwis kept chipping away at the wickets, with Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner picking up three apiece before Umesh Yadav’s rearguard action ensured India weren’t bowled out on Day 1.
