Indian cricket team bowler Mohammed Shami, currently recovering from an injury, celebrated Eid on Saturday as a proud, first-time father, following the birth of his daughter on Friday.

Shami's wife Hasin Jahan gave birth to their daughter at 2.40pm at a private hospital. "The baby is fine and healthy... Both are doing fine," an elated Shami told PTI.

Shami, who is out of the team for about three months, had surgery on his left knee and was undergoing rehab at the Bangalore-based NCA. "The recovery is going perfectly and I will once again go for rehab after a few days," the pacer added.

It is understood that Shami may miss the upcoming Tests in Sri Lanka next month and his return is likely against the home series against South Africa in September-October.
