"His stitches will be removed only on April 2 or 3. It is unlikely he'll turn up for the IPL," sources close to the bowler told HT. The 54-day IPL begins on April 4.

Ishant was advised surgery during India's tour of England last year but since doctors advised him that he would require six months to return to action, he postponed the operation to be available for India's tour of Australia. Though he played in all four Tests, Ishant managed to take only five wickets before returning home ahead of the one-day tri-series.

In the interim, he was treated by an alternate therapy expert, Jatin Chaudhary, who used laser to dissolve the extra bone growth in his ankle.

If Ishant is sidelined for six months, he will not be ready to play until September.

According to a tentative schedule, India's next fixture is a bilateral series in Sri Lanka in August, before they feature in the World Twenty20 tournament there in September.
