Watch: 'Hero's welcome' for Joe Root at Lord's after leading England to win over New Zealand with century
Joe Root received a standing ovation at the Lord's pavilion as he hugged his team mates after scoring an unbeaten 115 to lead England to victory in what was his first Test match since losing the captaincy.
Joe Root led England to victory in what was his first Test since losing captaincy of the team, helping them beat New Zealand by five wickets. In the process, he became just the second England player to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket, getting to the mark alongwith his 26th Test century. Root received a standing ovation from the stadium as he walked away from the ground and his team mates were at the pavilion to welcome him.

As the rest of the patrons at the pavilion applauded him, Root hugged captain Ben Stokes and the rest of his team mates and coaching staff.
Stokes was all praise for Root at the post-match presentation ceremony. "'Mr Dependable', Joe Root, stood up. Scoring a hundred and 10,000 runs -- what a player and what a man," Stokes said.
Root's unbeaten century helped England chase down a target of 277 after being all out for 141 in their first innings. Former Australia captain Mark Taylor said after the match that Root has a chance at gunning for Sachin Tendulkar's record for most runs in Test cricket.
Tendulkar, the most prolific international run scorer in cricket history, holds the record for the most runs in the game's longest format with a tally of 15,921 while 31-year-old Root's current tally stands at 10,015.
"Root has minimum five years left in him, so I think Tendulkar's record is very achievable," Taylor told Sky Sports.
"Root is batting as well as I have ever seen him bat over the last 18 months to two years.
"He is in the prime of his career, so there is 15,000 runs-plus for him if he stays healthy."
