Joe Root may not have fired with his bat during the County Championship encounter between Yorkshire and Lancashire, but his bowling performance will certainly be a point of concern for the Indian cricket team. Known for rolling his arm over once in a while in the whites, Root has the knack of picking up crucial wickets.

Ahead of their first Test which begins on August 1, Root took four wickets for just five runs as Lancashire defeated long-time rivals Yorkshire by 118 runs to register their sixth win of the competition.

Chasing a target of 323, Lancashire was bundled out for 204 in their second innings with Joe Root claiming career-best figures of 4-5. Jos Buttler (59) was the top-scorer for Yorkshire in the Roses match, but brilliant bowling efforts by Joe Root and Patrick Patterson (3-38) clinced the game for the rivals.

The County Championship match was a high-profile affair with big names like Joe Root, Kane Williamson and Jos Buttler taking part in the encounter. For the current England cricket team players, it was a good opportunity to warm-up ahead of their Test series against India. But, Root did not have a good outing as he was dismissed for 22 in the first innings and then, fell victim to James Anderson in the second innings.

Joe Root was not part of the England T20 squad for the series against India but he performed brilliantly in the ODI series as the former ODI skipper scored consecutive centuries to guide the hosts to a 2-1 victory.
