Finally, relief from the high court for stray dogs

Taking the cognizance of the writ petition filed by the PFA (People for Animal), the high court has ordered the Animal Welfare Board, Uttarakhand, to direct all the Urban development departments that no feral dog should be killed because it was blatantly illegal and unscientific.

The High Court has ordered that Rule 6 of animal birth control 2001 be followed and asked the urban development department to create a regular budget for the birth control of the feral dogs.

After receiving the orders from the high court, the Urban Development Directorate has asked all the Municipal Boards and municipal corporations in the state to build an animal birth control campus comprising at least 300 kennels, where the human population exceeds one lakh and 100 kennels, where the population is less than one lakh in order to keep the dogs before and after the surgical intervention.
