Internal squabbles rock Cong ahead of LS polls

Internal squabbles within the ruling Congress have threatened to derail the party’s prospects in the Lok Sabha polls with senior leaders expressing unhappiness over chief minister Harish Rawat’s style of functioning.

DEHRADUN: Internal squabbles within the ruling Congress have threatened to derail the party’s prospects in the Lok Sabha polls with senior leaders expressing unhappiness over chief minister Harish Rawat’s style of functioning.

Rawat was appointed as the chief minister only in February by the party high command which vowed to demands to pack off former chief minister Vijay Bahuguna.
However, even after the change at the helm, the party’s woes are far from over.While a couple of ministers are still seething over the distribution of portfolios by Rawat, a new crisis has emerged in the Tehri parliamentary constituency.

Jot Singh Bisht, who was appointed as working president of the party’s Tehri district unit, has refused to take charge citing his seniority.“Already a president is working and there is no sense for me to step in,” said Bisht. Kirti Negi is the district president of Tehri.

Bisht feels that since he is a senior leader his capabilities should be used elsewhere. Bisht, who was once considered close to Rawat, now enjoys good rapport with former chief minister Vijay Bahuguna. In fact, he had the contested assembly polls as an independent and was sacked by the party for his rebellion.
Bahuguna was instrumental is brining Bisht back to the party fold.
