Dr Amit, also the mastermind behind the Gurugram kidney racket busted in 2008, was nabbed along with his brother Dr Jeevan Kumar by Dehradun Police from Haryana on September 15.

He had been running illegal kidney removal and transplantation surgeries at Gangotri Charitable Hospital in Lal Tappad, around 30 km from Dehradun.

Dr Amit, who confessed to having performed around 50 renal surgeries in the hill state, is said to have bought immovable properties in the form of four land plots in Dalanwala area of Dehradun.

He had also reportedly purchased around 50 bigha of land in Doiwala area of Dehradun, not far away from the hospital from where he had been running the organ racket since July.

“We have got to know about Amit having purchased some properties in and around Dehradun. We are getting the details of the same verified,” Dehradun superintendent of police (rural) Sarita Dobhal told HT.

Dr Amit, currently lodged at the Dehradun district jail in Suddhowala, is also said to have bought more than 1,000 properties in other states over the past two decades.

“Most of his properties are already attached or frozen by authorities in the respective states,” Dobhal said.
