The state has 43 chronic landslide zones that need to be stabilised at the earliest to avoid tragedies, said chief minister Harish Rawat at a symposium in Dehradun on Tuesday.
The chief minister, at a gathering of experts and delegates from Japan International Cooperation Agency, said the danger zones of the state would be treated with latest technologies for slope stabilisation. Finding a better and sustainable solution for slope stabilisation in the Himalayan terrain is of utmost importance, he said at the symposium titled ‘Tackling the challenge of slope stabilisation and landslide prevention’.
He said experts present at the symposium should come up with information on new technological advancement to treat chronic landslide zones in Sirobagad, Sakni Dhar and Lambagar.
“I have always maintained that we not only need to rebuild but build better. This philosophy has formed the basis of our reconstruction efforts. Stabilisation is an issue that needs to be widely discussed and technically understood. We also would like to understand how these landslides can be predicted in time to minimise loss of life and property. We have identified 43 chronic landslide zones that need to be treated,” said Rawat.
