The Ranker’s examination for filling up the 288 vacant posts of sub-inspectors in the state would be held on July 6 at 18 examination centres under the district in-charges of the police.
This time, around 10,320 constables have filled up forms for these posts. Some of the constables have expressed apprehension of favouritism in the exams but the DGP has allayed such fears saying that strict measures are being taken to promote transparency.
The written examination would have an objective type question sheet in which the first part would be of general knowledge, general Hindi and the second part would have questions on law. All questions papers will be compulsory for the candidates.
In the last Ranker’s examination, the then superintendent of police, Tehri, Kewal Khurana had been accused of irregularities and aiding his favourite candidates by allowing copying. The enquiry has been reinstated against him again in this case.
In view of this, the ranker’s exam has become a sensitive proposition once again in the state. Constables who have filled up the forms are apprehensive that such acts might take place again as the examination is not held at a single place but at the district where there are chances that the process may be tampered by the SSPs or SPs.
On condition of anonymity, a constable who would be writing the ranker’s examination says that the process is still under control of the district police chiefs and they might help their own candidates.

{{/usCountry}}Another constable says that though it is difficult to tamper with the OMR sheets or add marks later on, the higher officials can definitely favour candidates of their choice by promoting copying.
Director general of police BS Sidhu says that it is not possible to hold the examination at a single centre due to the large number of applicants.
“We cannot accommodate more than 10,000 candidates at a single place. This time the police have taken several measures to ensure that there is no favouritism, or instances of copying during the exam. The paper would be made by one agency and the evaluation would be done by another,” said Sidhu.
