DEHRADUN: Urban development minister Madan Kaushik on Sunday directed officials to sort out various problems plaguing Dehradun within a month, warning them of carrying out “surprise inspections” to
monitor progress of work.
Accompanied by district magistrate SA Murugesan and senior superintendent of police Sweety Agarwal,Kaushik undertook an extensive inspection from ISBT to Clock Tower in an open e-rickshaw and got down at several points to advise officials.
Under the sweltering sun, a battery of officials from multiple departments including the district administration, police and public works department tailed Kaushik during his ground inspection. “I want results in a month’s time at all cost,” he told the officials in a stern tone.
“I have asked the DM to divide this stretch of six km into five parts and delegate responsibilities to as many officials, fixing their accountability for any discrepancy found in their area. This will ensure micro management of problems. I’l make surprise inspections to monitor the progress. They should be ready to face action (if any irregularity is found),” Kaushik told Hindustan Times after the inspection.
Since the minister’s plan was announced, most defaulters - who had either encroached the footpaths or were using basement parkings of complexes for non-parking purposes - had removed encroachments from the spot.

{{/usCountry}}During the inspection, Kaushik reviewed problems such as sluggish traffic movement in congested areas, heavy encroachments, lack of parking spaces and shifting of poles from the roads.
Earlier, on April 24, Kaushik had given instructions to authorities to work for an encroachment-free city and to take measures to ensure that Dehradun “looked like a state capital” in view of several problems marring the “true splendour” of the city.
