A 40-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her 22-year-old neighbour on Thursday night in south Delhi’s Rangpuri area near Vasant Kunj. Police said the man and the woman had allegedly had an argument two days ago. Police have arrested the man for the murder.
According to the police, on Thursday a call was received at Vasant Kunj (south) police station reporting that a woman, Rekha Singh, has been stabbed four times by her neighbour, Gopal Singh, following a quarrel near her house in lane number 10, Rangpuri.
“When a police team reached the spot we found that the woman had ben shifted to AIIMS trauma center by a CATS ambulance. A police team then reached the hospital found that the doctors had pronounced the woman dead. Preliminary enquiry revealed that her neighbour had stabbed her. A police team later raided Gopal’s house from where he was arrested and the weapon, a meat chopping cleaver, recovered,” said a police officer.
Rekha’s husband, Sunil Singh, said that he was at his shop with his eldest son when the incident took place. “I was told that Gopal had stepped out of his house, approached my wife and stabbed her a few times. About 4-5 days ago, Gopal had also stabbed a woman with a pair of scissors because she was washing utensils outside her house which had led to water clogging,” Singh said.
Singh said Gopal lived with his two brothers and had had an accident a few days ago and has been disturbed since then. The police, however, said that Gopal’s mental health was a matter of investigation.
Deputy commissioner of police (southwest) Devender Arya said that the man has been arrested for the murder. Arya said that the woman’s preliminary post mortem report has revealed that she suffered four stab wounds in her chest.
“Initial probe has revealed that Rekha had an argument with Gopal two days ago . “It looks like the man had stabbed after the argument,” the DCP said.
