The snake was found inside the assistant engineer’s office of the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) branch, a wildlife NGO said on Thursday. “The snake was rescued. It is currently under observation and will be released back into its natural habitat once deemed fit,” an official of the Wildlife SOS said.

“I was shocked to discover the large cobra inside my office room,” said assistant engineer, Deepak Kumar Saxena. He said he spotted the snake coiled up behind a cupboard, barely inches away.

A team of trained snake rescuers were rushed to the spot. “Being one of the four most venomous snake species to be found in India, our team had to exercise a lot of caution while conducting the rescue,” said Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder of the Wildlife SOS.

The team successfully extricated the cobra and transferred it into a safe transport container. The members of the rescue team said it was difficult to catch the snake without alarming it as the space behind the cupboard was narrow. It was drawn out after ensuring that everyone was at a safe distance, they said.
