DU registrations close with over 2.2 lakh applications, now wait for the cut-offs

Delhi University received over 2.2 lakh completed applications till Tuesday when the online registrations for merit based undergraduate courses closed.

This year, 2,21,309 candidates have applied to the university, with more than half the applications coming from Delhi. This is a notch lower than the approximately 2.5 lakh applications that the university received last year.

“The number is lower for a simple reason. This year, we did not allow duplicate applications,” said a top DU official. This year, if a student applied using their unique board roll number, another application would not have been applied using the same roll number. However, students could apply for multiple courses in the same application.

Students tend to choose BA programme over others, because most students are eligible for the course and it does not have specific pre-requisites like some of the other courses, according to officials.

“As it is broad based, it holds special appeal for students who wish to pursue civil services and other competitive exams later on,” added the official.

“The preliminary rounds of trial for the different ECA categories will start on June 17. The final rounds of selection will tentatively begin on June 30,” said Shalini, head of ECA admissions at DU.

The trials for the sports quota will begin on June 27, according to DU sources.

“This year we have more transparency as the eligible merit certificates are put on a drop down (list) in the Form which will automatically show marks once it is verified by the experts... The process will be video-graphed as earlier and the final list will be combined and placed on the DU website. The grievances if any will be placed to a grievance committee already formed,” said CS Dubey, chairman, sports at DU.
