Among the evidence being examined by police are notes recovered from the house that indicate that it was possibly a ritual gone wrong.

Here’s a look at what the notes said:

On their final moments

“Antim samay mein aakhiri ichcha ki poorti ke waqt aasman hilega, dharti kaanpegi. Us waqt tum ghabrana mat. Mantron ka jaap badha dena. Main aakar tumhein utaar loonga. Auron ko bhi utaarne mein madad karoonga”

(At the last moment and during the fulfilment of the last wish, the sky will shake and the earth will tremble. Do not panic at that moment. Increase the frequency of the chants. I will come and bring you down. I will also help bring down the others.)

“Jis din yah prayog karoge, phone ka prayog kam se kam rakhna”

(The day you perform this experiment (ritual), avoid using cellphones)

On the blindfolds

“Pattiyan achche se baandhni hai. Shoonya ke alawa kuch nahi (dikhna chahiye). Rassi ke saath sooti chunniyan ya sari ka prayog karna hai”

(The blindfolds must be tied very tightly. Nothing apart from infinity (should be visible to the eyes). Along with ropes, use sarees or nylon chunnis)

On mistakes made

“Dhanteras aake chali gayi. Kisi ki galti ka prabhav hai. Chetavni ko nazarandaaz na karte hue uspe ghaur karo. Aisa na ho ki agli Diwali na dekh pao”

(Dhanteras has come and gone. There is an influence of someone’s mistakes. Don’t ignore the warnings, pay heed to them. It shouldn’t happen that you don’t live until the next Diwali.)

Worshipping the banyan tree

“Ishwar is baat se khush hain ki 11 bande ek bhavna vah ek line mein khade hain. Ye badh tapasya badi badi samasyaon ka hal hai”

(God is pleased that 11 people have similar thoughts and are standing as one. The ‘badh tapasya’ is a solution to all major problems.)

On faith in the rituals

“Dheelapan aur avishwaas nuksaandaayak hota hai. Shram, talmel aur aapsi sahyog zaroori hota hai”

(Lack of concentration and disbelief is harmful. Labour, coordination and mutual help are vital factors)
